Specialist School Report Year 1 PDF Print E-mail

Specialist status has presented an exciting opportunity for the school to move forward in the next phase of its development. In setting the programme and targets for ourselves we were rigorous and challenging and this has led to very real improvements both in attainment and provision.

The steps taken to give priority to the involvement of pupils in their targets has clearly led to a steep increase in the percentage of these targets achieved. This links well to our whole school priorities of Total Communication and Pupil Voice which have both been enhanced through the new status. Pupil Voice in particular has spread well beyond the school and provided opportunities across the whole of the South West region.  Needless to say the capacity of our pupils in this respect never ceases to delight and amaze us.

As in everything the quality of what we do is founded on the hard work and expertise of the staff involved. One of the strengths of the status activities has been the involvement a range of teaching and support staff. They are to be congratulated on the quality of their work and the development opportunities that they have so readily embraced.

Excellent relationships have been established with our school and other community partners but this work has progressed at a slower pace than the activities over which we have had direct control. We have recognized that the priorities of our programme are not necessarily the highest priority for our mainstream partners but we will continue to work proactively to meet their identified needs.

We look forward to our second year of work and the opportunities it will provide with excitement.
